چکیده
Note: G/C polymorphism at nucleotide -174 (promoter region) Breast cancer prognosis differs between populations. Despite its lower incidence in Blacks when compared to Caucasians, mortality among the former is higher. Genetic factors involved in the molecular pathways regulating tumor development have been adduced to explain these differences, and it has been suggested that the IL-6 gene is a susceptibility factor underlying ethnic differences in breast cancer survival. Reports of a G/C polymorphism at nucleotide -174 within the promoter region of the IL-6 gene support this contention. This polymorphism modulates IL-6 expression and allele/genotype frequencies at the -174 site differ significantly between ethnic groups.

The Effect of Beta Interferon on Dendritic Cells and Cytokine Synthesis by CD4+ T Cells
Background: Dendritic cells (DC) are a key regulator of the immune response, and interferon- beta (IFN-β) is considered an immunomodulatory molecule for DC. Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the ability of IFN-β treated DC to induce cytokine secretion by CD4+ T cells. Methods: Dendritic cells were generated from blood monocytes with granulocyte-monocyte colony-stimulating fac...
متن کاملA phase I study of recombinant interleukin 2 plus recombinant beta-interferon.
Interleukin 2 (IL-2) therapies have antitumor activities against several neoplasms. In vitro these activities are enhanced by beta-interferon (IFN-beta). Therefore, we initiated a Phase I trial with a combination of IL-2 and IFN-beta three times weekly. The IFN-beta was administered i.v. Initially, the IL-2 was administered s.c. However, neutralizing antibody to the IL-2 developed in five patie...
متن کاملRegulation of interleukin-6 expression in cultured human blood monocytes and monocyte-derived macrophages.
A culture system that allows human blood monocytes to differentiate into macrophages in vitro was used to study B-cell stimulatory factor-2/interleukin-6 (interferon-beta 2/26 kd protein) expression in mononuclear phagocytes. Using B-cell stimulatory factor-2 (BSF-2) cDNA and a polyclonal, monospecific antibody directed against human BSF-2, we find that strong interleukin-6 (IL-6) expression is...
متن کاملEffects of Different Concentrations of Opium on the Secretion of Interleukin-6, Interferon-γ and Transforming Growth Factor Beta Cytokines from Jurkat Cells
Background: The risk of infectious, autoimmune and immunodeficiency diseases and cancers rise in opioid addicts due to changes in innate and acquired immune responses. Three types of opioid receptors (К،δ،μ) are expressed on the surface of lymphocytes and mononuclear phagocytes. The present study was designed to examine the effects of different concentrations of opium on the secretion of some c...
متن کاملThe myeloid blood cell differentiation-inducing protein MGI-2A is interleukin-6.
The mouse myeloid blood cell differentiation-inducing protein, macrophage and granulocyte inducer, type 2A (MGI-2A), was purified, and the amino acid sequence of a CNBr cleavage peptide (22 residues) was determined. This amino acid sequence is identical to the sequence found in positions 73 to 94 of mouse interleukin-6 (IL-6). Recombinant mouse IL-6 protein induces differentiation of mouse myel...
متن کاملInterleukin 4 induces selective production of interleukin 6 from normal human B lymphocytes
In this paper we have shown that extensively purified human B lymphocytes respond to IL-4 treatment with a marked production of IL-6. Addition of anti-mu potentiated the effect of IL-4 on IL-6 production. Other cytokines tested like TNF-alpha and-beta, IFN-gamma, IL-1, IL-2, and IL-5 did not induce IL-6 secretion when given to resting B cells. Although B cells generally also produced TNF-alpha ...
